The Angels of Davide Cerati

The words of Davide Cerati about his research project on Angels

“I do not know precisely how the project was born: at some point, I had the idea to take pictures of angels. The beginning of the project can be approximately dated in 2003, in the occasion of Christmas. I realized a holiday card with a portrait of an angel to be sent to all my friends and relatives. That was my first angel. Then I continued, every now and then, to take pictures of angels with no restraints, in complete freedom: no time restrictions, no restrictions on subjects or others: the project is still ongoing, always on development. I take the chance to take shots when I have the opportunity, when I have the inspiration, the willingness to do something for the implementation of the project. Eventually, taking advantage of one moment in which I am on stage for a work and I have the time to catch the moment to take a shot of a model that is there for a completely different purpose. I want to keep on with this job in complete freedom, until the moment I will feel the right inspiration, according to what I will have to do in the future with my job, find time by time a compromise between work and research.”

DISCOVERING THE WORLD THROUGH THE LENSES OF LAURA FRASCA

Laura Frasca photography. The Borneo lands: a journey through a neglected forest.

Laura describes herself and her work with her own words.

“I am a Photographer, even though I like better to define myself a “Storyteller”: my stories are my photography projects, my keyboard is my camera, my pencils are my lenses.

I am a wanderlust-addicted traveller: I take every single opportunity to start a journey in all the corners of the globe, especially the most undiscovered, undeveloped and even forgotten sites.

My stories talk about figures, facts and places in which the key factor that underpins my efforts is represented by a social, cultural and ethical “fil rouge” (alternative: leitmotiv).

Being a woman, the most powerful driving force in my work is a strong empathy with the female word: I feel a commitment to narrate stories in which female gender plays a crucial role. Nevertheless, I always felt myself to be on the side of forgotten and unprotected minorities.

My ambition is to talk about what others do not mention; about people suffering is silence, about countries in which human rights are neglected, while the rest of the planet is keeping on its run to the future.

Moreover, Nature is my panacea: it is able to relieve my troubles and to mitigate my mood. It is a rescue for my body and soul, creating a cathartic effect that brings me back to my roots, my past, my origins. I enjoy the possibility to discover remote places and landscapes, reaching a Zen state of mind that allows me to reconnect with my inner toughs and gain a reconciliation with the rest of the world, with harmony and peace.

Through these pages, I wish to share the emotions I felt when I realized my shots and I hope to deliver this emotion to all the people browsing my work.

I also would like to thank you in advance for your appreciation: if you are reading these words, probably I reached my ultimate objective that is, in few words, to stimulate your curiosity and touch your sensitivity.”

PHOTOGRAPHY AND INNOVATION: THE WORK OF DAVIDE CERATI

Research and experiments in photography. The innovative approach of Davide Cerati.

Davide Cerati is an Italian eclectic photographer. Most of his professional work is dedicated to advertising photography for different types of context: fashion set, design, food, beauty. Nevertheless, portraits are the best expression of his work. Quoting his own words, he is specialized in “photography of people” rather than mere portraits: when dealing with people there no distinction in the use of the photography itself, whether it is fashion, advertising or commercial destination. His camera captured images of people of all kinds: actors, models, entrepreneurs, managers, television and movie celebrities, as well as individuals and ordinary people wishing to award themselves with an exclusive, well-groomed and certified portrait.
